Eaton Square Nursery Schools offer a range of opportunities for learning. Preparation for the children's future education is thorough and the timetable offers a balance of structured play and a focussed emphasis on all aspects of the EYFS - Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.
Activities for both Problem Solving Reasoning and Numeracy and Communication Language and Literacy are incorporated into the Nursery School timetable in both formal and informal ways. Knowledge and Understanding of the World is deepened with termly projects on subjects such as 'All round the World' and 'Artists'. Nature studies at the Ecology Centre in Holland Park and The Wetland Centre in Barnes are incorporated into the timetable as are outings to places of interest such as The Tate Gallery and the many London museums.
Music, singing, role play and weekly 'Show and Tell' sessions make for a busy and exciting programme for the children.
All of our Nursery Schools are decorated with bright displays of the children's artwork, a testament to the creativity of the children. For physical development, the children also enjoy regular park visits and weekly sports session. In addition to their weekly gym session, movement to music, ballet, yoga and swimming are all offered as part of the curriculum.
Personal Social and Emotional Development
Eaton Square Nursery Schools aim to provide opportunities and activities for the children to feel valued so that both a strong self image and self esteem are promoted. The children are encouraged to be confident and independent in the classroom. They gain an understanding of both right and wrong and learn to build relationships with others. The children are taught to share fairly, take turns and express their emotions clearly and appropriately.
Communication; Language and Literacy
In this area of learning, the children are provided with opportunities to communicate with both adults and their classmates, to practice and extend their range of vocabulary and communication. They are encouraged to explore, enjoy and learn about words in a range of different contexts.
Problem Solving Reasoning and Numeracy
In order to develop their understanding and awareness of numbers, the children are provided with opportunities to look at measurements, pattern, shape and numbers themselves. Through songs, practical and written activities, they gain an understanding of qualities, counting, number recognition and the mathematical language needed to work with and solve simple problems.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
The children are provided with opportunities to problem solve, make decisions, experiment, plan and question. They are encouraged to explore and find out about their environment, people and places. Each child is encouraged to find out about past and present events and gain an awareness of the cultures and beliefs of other people.
Creative Development
In this area of development, the children are provided with opportunities to explore and share thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of creative activities. They are encouraged to use their imagination through art and design, music, dance, role play and voices.
Physical Development
In this area the children are provided with opportunities to develop and practise fine and gross motor skills. They are encouraged to work with the gym apparatus and sports equipment to develop confidence, hand eye co-ordination and control, both indoors and out.
