From the Headmaster
From the Headmaster………

The snow has been falling and the reports back from La Clusaz have been both positive and inspiring. Boys and girls reaching new levels of competence, stretching themselves physically and pushing themselves to achieve just that little bit more than they think they can. The bonding and team work also cultivated with activities during the time away from the snow have also been encouraging, with many reports of strengthened relationships and a greater understanding of one another.
Year Four arrived back in Heathrow from their week's skiing on Saturday to pass those pupils of Year Five who were on their way out. The younger tired, yet happy and satisfied faces, were met with the excited and expectant ones of the year above. Dispatches this week have, once again, spoken of a most successful and enjoyable time being had by all. No doubt the photos within these pages will give just a glimpse of what ESS is up to as I write this column.

Mr Pennington popped his head around my study door last week to explain, with some pride and pleasure, just how well his football teams have been performing this year. It is the best year yet for winning results and he is rightly delighted with the boys who have demonstrated great awareness and skill on the field. I am delighted by this and look forward to more of the same in the future.

In the Senior building the new display boards which now run up through the School have been filled in quick time by the work generated by Mrs Tamimi-Fryer's Art Dept. If you are 'dropping off ' there please do pop in (and up) to see the paintings and drawings on display. The art pieces produced by the girls and the boys are truly excellent and I am excited by much of the artistic talent which we have here. The Art Scholarship classes, which were begun this year, are really developing well and the improvement made by the members of this August group has been tremendous. It is pleasing to imagine how strong this cohort will be in the years ahead.

Displays in general are worth mentioning here. I spent much of this week visiting all of the Nurseries and School buildings which are Eaton Square School. I was staggered by many of the fantastic displays in all of the settings. The value of inspirational and captivating display work cannot be over emphasised and I have no doubt that our pupils gain such a great deal from them here. This reminds me of one of the first comments from the lead inspector who visited us last year. Looking around at the walls and work up in the classrooms she said,' You certainly do what you say on the tin! '. What better reward for all of that hard work?
